A Wartime Expressionist
Ilse Hausner (1920–2015) was a German Expressionist who transformed personal hardship into art that celebrates life’s enduring beauty. Born in Zwittau and trained at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, she lost her studio to bombing and later fled Soviet-occupied Germany. Settling in Bavaria, she found inspiration lake Tegernsee’s tranquility and later in in Tuscany’s autumnal light. Her paintings embrace tradition, vibrant color, and a profound reverence for nature—each canvas a lasting testament to her resilience and passion for artistic truth.
